Bear oppertunity Updated....
« on: March 13, 2008, 08:57:00 AM »
Saw a Bear longbow for sale locally, but haven't seen a picture yet.  Markings:

Bear Glass Powered
Ser# 5R6004
42#
62 inch

Any idea what model this might pertain too?  I'm guessing a 65 Kodiak Special.  Trying to look through some of the references that show bow lengths to particular years and the KS seems to be the only one that fits the bill. "R" is supposed to be the model for the 60's models but I'm not real keen on the designators.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Tim.

Both the 65 Tigercat and Cub where 62". I think the 65 K special was 66 or 68 inch.

Thanks everyone, I don't know how I overlooked those two as possibilities, I was looking over Al Readers chart and must've stopped before I got to them.  I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow. I'll let ya know what it is.

Sorry about the mess doc! Ifin ya get'em on cd then you wouldn't have that problem, but then you couldn't just flip through them any ol' time either.   :D

I need to invest in the catalog CDs myself just for this purpose alone.  Thanks for the help.  Tim

Oh yeah I really do like the old catalogs.I never did get the CD and I guess for me it seemed weird to not smell mold while reading about a 1961 Kodiak...bowdoc

Just wanted to let everyone know the outcome.

I just picked up the bow, which turned out to be a lefty, 65' Cub, Light Green glass back, white belly glass.  Solid riser, not sure of the wood type, doesn't look like maple, not really dark enough for rosewood, maybe shedua? Silver inlaid medallion.

I thought it would be a good item for the St Judes auction, or if there are any members looking for lightweight lefty for a young beginner prior to the auction this would be the ticket.  I'm gonna try to clean her up, it looks solid, few little dings here and there but for the price, I think its worth it.  I'll try to post some pictures (before and after).  Maybe an oppertunity for some skins to cover that Green Glass? Whatya think?  Tim
