I don't know about his Kodiak Hunter, but I just got a 58" KHunter.  

Any info about brace height?  How do these compare to the older and newer Kodiaks?

Curious about the value, too . . .  but really want to know more about the oddball length.  I've had '65 and '66 and a Super K but never really knew of the 58" bow.

Help would be appreciated.

The 1967 kodiak hunter was the first year, and 58". 1968 and after were 60".

I'm finding it a little hard to get info on the hunters, most I've found list the brace between 7.5" and 8" I'm shooting mine at 7 5/8 but am still working it out.

smalson I do believe yours is the 1967 1/2 and the only ones made at 58"s and it would be worth more depending on condition.

All other hunters are 60"s

bna if your serial starts with a number, that number is the year it was made 8=68 9=69.


in 1970 bear went to the K serials but kept the flat coin for 70, 71, some of 72, part of the late 72s got raised coins but still had the 53 patent like those before. I did hear on TG that the 70 had no stabilizer hole

I owned a 72 SK myself with the raised coin and 53 patent. It shot nice pulled smooth but seem to have a lot of flex in the riser, I could always feel it give slightly in my palm

my kodiak hunter is one of those love it or hate it green future wood bows and I love it. you can tell the real big difference when you pick up a superk and a cub but it dont feel like that picking up the SK with the KH, I see every bit of the quality in the SK built into the KH.

I will say bna none of the 60"s are real special as far as rare find, none, only the 67 1/2 58" kodiak hunter comes close to a rare find.

They are all special in the quality built into them and extra touchs used to make them special on their own, overlays made of the same material used on the SK for riser overlays, tip overlays. I do like the earier ones made with nicer woods they used.

I think because of bear companys own print shown above, the true quality of the kodiak hunter has been very under rated

I think the riser made like it is makes it stiffer then the SK riser, my 45#hunter hits as hard as my old 50# SK did.

as for value, you can check the going price on Kh at different places, be sure to read over condition of the bow, 96+% of the time the money is in the condition.
 

Hang on to it, time is moving on and this hunter I got is just to well made, 10 or 20 years from now MrGreenjeans born in 1975 will be sitting alongside the rest of his kodiak brothers, IMHO that is where MrGreenJeans belongs cause he's as good as the rest.

Your 58" KH is a first year 1967 model.  In my opinion it is the most desirable as a collector and as a shooter.

That is a beutiful example of a Bubinga riser.  Is that original or has it been r3efinished?

Don't worry about those stress lines and hazing, they won't effect the shooting.

All original.  I am not a craftsman, so I hesitate to start on the finish of anything that isn't a low rung and non-collector bow.  No holes usually mean no toucha da finish to me.

Shot my 58" Kodiak today on my chrono.  Here are the result:

It is 52#, and using 448gr arrows (2016 with feathers) and my 28" draw it was consistently in the 180-185 range.   One arrow was 188.9 fps which either meant a bit longer draw or a bit cleaner on the release.  

It was the most impressive Bear I've shot.
