Do you remember your first ......
« on: May 23, 2008, 09:01:00 AM »
Well here is one that is a true heart and gut wrencher.Remember that chick that was so good looking and so fine....You would almost passout from the headrush when she would walk into the room.Oh yeah we all do huh?  Well it was a truely sad day for the bowdocs 11 year old grandson....nope his woman did not run off...to young for that...His second love was his first bow....a sweet Little Wing 24#@24"..why his second....because being the bowdocs grandson. You know there's better things to come.Last year for his birthday I gave him his first love.A really sweet 1956 Bear Kodiak double shelf 40#er.I put snake skins on the back and about 15 hand polished coats of finish..The boy's eyes were buggen when he opened the bow box and that gem rolled out.He was shineing brighter then the bow itself. But sadly she left us last sunday....fact is..she's so did Fred himself could not save the old girl now.....What happend you ask ? My son-in-law strung the bow with bow stringer as instruced several years ago by me...He strung her up fine....but missed one knocking slot for the string on the lower limb...(inside the sock of the bow stringer and did not notice). He then pulled the bow to make sure things were OK for the boy.....Oh yeah she scared the snot right out of both of them....Pictures soon....sad day......bowdoc

AAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhh!

These pics should be shown to everybody you teach to use a bowstringer.

Don -

One quick question - Was the Super Grizzly of 1973 really the same design as the prototype '64 Kodiak used by Fred in 1962? I read this in some forum, and the guy said that it was advertised this way when the Super Grizzly was displayed in stores.
That was my first real bow, and I wonder if that is how the salesman got me.

Tony
PS - It is nowhere near the actual 64 kodiak design, but it does resemble earlier kodiaks

Yes they do come and go...I will be on the hunt for a new bow for the grandson soon....Well Tony you are kinda correct on that. They did use all types of sales tecneaks...But the early model bows were the proto's for the later ones. The 1961-1962 was just a proto to the super grizz as you mentioned and seen in the pic above showing the bows profile.Bear changed the limb design about 20 times...but the riser did kinda remain the same-ish....I still love those super grizz. They just plan shoot good.bowdoc
