New additions to the collection
« on: June 09, 2008, 07:34:00 PM »
My wife came home from visiting her father the other day and tells me "my dad sent his old bows for you". I leap to my feet and rush out to "help" her unload her truck. First, I see a camo recurve, I snatch it up and look at the silk screens. A 67 1/2 factory camo 58" Kodiak hunter. Sweet. This was his hunting bow and he told me, "if you kill a deer with that it will be the fitting crown for that bows career". (I now have a goal). Second I see an I-beamed riser polar, not sure of the year, I will have to check the CD. Its 64" and 42 lbs with a silver or pewter coin. He bought both of these bows new.

My wife said they are mine to keep forever I can only hand them down to someone in the family. Though my father in law has a son also, he shows no interest in hunting or archery. I guess I am his legacy. Now I will honor his wish and hunt with the Kodiak Hunter this fall when I go to my camp near Grayling. I only take my Bears when I go to my camp to hunt. It seems fitting to hunt with these bows only a couple miles from where they were born. I called and thanked my father in law. First he gives me his daughter, then his bows. He still hunts but has regressed to the wheels.

What great prizes to add to my collection of old Bears.
No hunter should feel guilty for killing a deer that doesnt meet someone else's expectations.

Those are the best kind of bows or guns or fishing equipment.   The one's with family MOJO.  Enjoy your "new" hand-me-downs.

I looked on the Bear CD and to the best of my ID abilities the polar seems to be a '63, and its 66" amo not 64".
