Need Bow I'd ( now with pics)
« on: June 24, 2008, 04:40:00 PM »
I've got a 58 inch recurve that says "special No. 730 - 4' 10"" and has the symbol of an arrow  diagonally through it. It has brown glass front and back, with what looks like a shedua riser and has no tip overlays...it pulls 40 lbs at 28 inches and has serial number 30-22867 in black ink. Sorry, I'm unable to post pics (camera's broken), but would like a "closest guess" (I think it looks like a wing recurve, but am not sure) Oh, and it has the smoothest draw I've ever felt, all the way out to 30 inches +. I had a friend look at it, and he said it draws smoother than his brand new Bob Lee TD recurve, and his draw's 31 inches...
Thanks,
Derek

Hey Derek: Your bow is a Ben Pearson. I had a few of them over the years.    Mike

With catalogue number 730 - it is a Ben Pearson DeerSlayer. I have one too. Shoots nice but doesn't quite feel "sustantial enough" in my hand.

Amen. When you say mine has black glass - I think you are thinking abouy my Pearson Buckmaster (The red and black one you made the cool string for). My Pearson DeerSlayer has brown glass front and back just like the bow described. I am still thrown by the "Special" thou. That one's got me.

yeah I know what you mean...It seems to be a rather odd thing to put on a bow...maybe a custom Deerslayer??? (I've heard of stranger things)...anyhow, thanks for all your replies and lets see if we can get Bowdoc or others to weigh in their thoughts...
Thanks,
Derek

Here is what I'm remembering, for what it's worth! I think the "Special" line was sold to discount outlets and did not bear the Pearson name. They normally mimic a standard non-imbellished bow in the Pearson line. I remember reading somewhere these were similar to the Bear bows sold under the Sears name and the Black Panther Hunter, etc.

I could be all wet on this, but I think I'm pretty close to the mark. To sum it up, I believe they were a discount Ben Pearson. CKruse

then why didn't they have a name on it? if its a ben pearson, then why did they have to make it so darn complicated to find out what it is???

oh and it's a fast shooter, with a smooth draw, and the bow is kinda decorative, if you look at the riser...its solid and fairly heavy...as well as being a solid block of some sort of exotic hardwood (porbably shedua),and the bow is FAST for 40lbs, faster than any other 40lb'er I've ever shot...
