74 Super Kodiak....
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:35:00 PM »
Made ya look!

Sorry guys, no pictures.

I'm thinking I'd like to pick up a Super K from the year I was born. So for those more knowledgeable than I, what identifying factors should I be looking for?

It should be futurewood riser with black glass on the limbs. The stripe in the riser should be red. A raised plastic coin and the serial number should start with a KZ.

I have a '69 Super K for the exact same reason...

Yep. The '74's were red stripes. However, the '73's were red stripe as well. 75 and 76 were blue stripes. All will have the Fascore decals.

Thanks guys, I thought they were Victors with a red stripe but wasn't real sure.  I don't see many come up for sale so that will give me time to scrape some funds together.  I may try to get the catalog for that year for reference.  I'll keep you posted.  Tim

I see one on the auction site.  #KZ18939, owner said there are 2 small holes that are filled in.  From the pictures I can't see the raised button, so it may have been removed to make way for the site or quiver. Price is up to $175, a bit much for what it is, having holes, and missing the orginal button.  What do you all think?

6 months ago 175 would have been a steal. All the Super K's were going for at least mid 200's... BUT... prices semm to have bottomed out lately. I guess it's the economy. Right now it is definately a buyers market.

Tim, If the holes are going to bother you I'd hold out for a better one.  They pop up fairly often.

There's an archery shop nearby that has exactly what you're looking for in Mint condition with the stickers still on the bow. If I remember correctly it's a 53# 60". I've been trying to buy it for over a year now.  I'll approach the owner again to see if he'll budge.

The drilled holes wouldn't bother me so much, but if its missing the original button then I'll choose to pass.  I emailed the seller to find out if its still there just to be sure.  If it continues to climb I'll let it pass.

Now the Mint bow would be something of interest, and its in the same weight as my other 60"s hunting bows.

Trap, PM sent.
