Recently my boss closed the company I have worked at for the last 3.5 years here in Anchorage( only offering me a minnimal severance package for my services) Leaving me in a stressful situation as you can imagine. The cost of living in Alaska is very, very expensive. I am looking for a new job with earnest however to make ends meet right now I am considering selling off some of my bow collection. I really hate the idea but unemployment up here only pays a maximum monthly benefit of $1,200 per month... heck my rent alone is $900 so I need to supplement my income pronto until I find a new job. Believe me I am willing right now to deliver pizza, or tap dance nude with my hair on fire in front of a Quiznos store to earn some extra cash.... but sadly I have decided to part out some of my 138 Kodiaks, Kodiak Mags, K Specials, and take downs.... it is a very hard decision for me to accept. These bows are my passion besides an investment hobby. I don't expect to get all the money I have paid for each bow back but, I think it should balance out in the end with some bows selling for profit and others selling for a loss. Do you know anyone who has sold a big collection of bows all at one time? Or Should I try to piece out the bows one by one on e8ay? I have never owned a house, pay cash for my trucks, never married and no kids.... so I am just trying to take care of my own living needs and credit card debt. Today's economy really sucks and I never thought I would be forced to be in this situation.... any input appreciated.

Real sorry for all your troubles. This is getting to be a scary time. I have heard of a few people selling out there whole collections, but I think for you it would seem to be best for you cause what if you sold your collection on monday and landed a great job on tuesday with that many bows
I think I would and this is just me take as many as the more common stuff kodiak hunters and magnums at a reasonable price this would give you two customer bases shoooters and collectors, but again I am sorry you have to sell your bows I have been there and done that and it hurts /Tim

Wow Chuck that's awful news. Sorry to hear it.

Have you considered moving out of Alaska and getting to a place where cost of living is lower? Perhaps that's not an option. Just a thought.

I'd be tempted to jump in that truck that's paid for and head southeast with the "collection" in the back.

I dont know the situation, just thinking out loud.

Chuck,
At one time I was into the antique fishing lures pretty heavy, a super collection of Moonlight, Heddon, Creekchub and PawPaw baits. Well I wanted out to purchase a sharp 1966 Elcamino, you will get MAYBE 50% of value when selling a complete collection. Take the time to sell only as needed.
I,m sure several guys on here would love a hunting guide in your area, just a thought...take care..Roy

hey chuck,you are most right about this economy-sucking!!!i have close to 80 bows.not all bears,but all kinds.just last week i sold 4 bows to a guy here for $675 to help us out. i did not want to sell them!!! i picked out 4 that i figured i could part with&they're gone.&i will do it again if i have to!!!some how it will come around again&work out. what goes around comes around!!! i understand you have a real collection there, but you have to do what you gotta do. think positive&keep the faith man.it'll all work out!!! take care!!! bobinpa.

The same thing happend to me. I knew it would happened put away for 3 years never know when it happends. Glad at my parents house. Sorry to hear that.

Chuck;

Only you know your true priorities. I'm with Trap here; is living in Alaska that important to you? You'll never be able to replace that collection, and if you've noticed, vintage bow resale prices have dropped considerably from where they once were.

Yea, I bought a lot of my bows, 7-8 years ago when prices were at a premium. You never saw a '59 Kodiak sell for less than a grand back then. I am sure I would loss money in the end. I do want to stay in Alaska if I can, but I have considered moving soon if I can't find a job that pays enough. I am going to start out selling some of my hunting bows and go from there.I have been building prosthetics for 15 years now and can find work in just about any other major city, it is just a matter of making up my mind to move. Much as I hate to see people I know and like, making decisions they otherwise would not, Chuck knows what he's gotta do, and it is a pisser!
If you are going to buy a collector bow folks you can't do any better than than the bows in this collection.

One tip. If you sell on e8ay, do it one at a time, otherwise you're competing agains yourself fors ales.

Alaska must be an awsome place to live. I envy you. If I were in your shoes I would do everything I could to stay there. Hang on until Winter and build an Igloo.

We have never met, but I have admired some of your collection many times on this forum. Think of the collection as a savings account that happens to be bows not money. Never lose sight of the fact that you have your health and that's way more inportant than any job or collectable bow. When I get some money myself I will send you a PM.
