light weight ladder stand
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:37:00 PM »
I'm getting too old for the old climbing stand. (65) I hunt National Forest and can't let the stand out for more than a few days. I need a light weight stand that I can carry in and out for 1/2 to 1 mile. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Lightest one I saw was a Loggy Bayou Ladder Stand.Check a Cabela's archery catolog.  Have you tried good old ground hunting though?

Here's one that's pretty interesting.

I have the loggy- convenient for a ladder stand- not too heavy either (for a ladder stand- 35#)but I am not sure just one guy can put up any ladder stand safely!

I have a North Star that is very light. It creaks when it gets cold. I am going to have all the joints welded. I put a ratchet strap on from the ground to secure it so I can climb up and do the top strap.
If it's in your way, move it.

What about climbing sticks?  Would that work?

I just thought you could use your existing stands.

Truthfully, my wife doesn't like climbing stands anymore so I too am on the hunt for a ladder or climbing sticks.  I cannot decide which is better.  Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, I just thought this is consistant with your request.

I bought a ladder stand from Cabela's ($60 on sale)last year that I am very happy with. It will stretch to 15 ft but I am happy at 10 ft. I use a Cabela's game cart to carry it in. Makes the job a lot easier. I've been using it about a 45 minute walk from my truck. Going that far back I always take my cart. The ten footer I can put up and take down fairly easily. 15 ft I would recommend having help. Good luck.
