Sticker on Bear Bow?
« on: August 24, 2008, 07:15:00 PM »
I'm really enjoying shooting Bear Super Kodiaks at the moment.   The one I'm shooting most (a near mint #40 :^) has a sticker on the upper limb...   It says "Victor" and has a picture of a target on a shield.   I have seen this sticker in pictures of other Bear bows, even ran into a bow offered as the "Victor" model, which it wasn't... it had a standard Bear model designation on the limb just as mine says "Super Kodiak".    So, for you Bear collectors and gurus, what exactly is the significance of this sticker?    How widely was it used and on what models?    I'm guessing Bear won some big archery tournement or something...

Dick you should post this in the History/Collectors forum. Those Gurus in there will have answers in a jiffy.

Victor-Comptometer company owned Bear Archery from 1968 to 1977. During several years Bear bows were labeled with the Victor sticker. I'm sure there are those on here that can tell you more. I'm way too young to be a "Guru"!   :bigsmyl:  CKruse

In the 1972 catalog, many of the bows are called Victor super magnums, victor super grizzlies etc. In the 1973 and 1974 catalogs, the super Ks are called Victor Super Kodiaks. The Victor sticker was used on many different bear bows from 1972 to 1977. I take it your bow is a red striper?

that's an explanation I wouldn't have thought of, for sure.    Guess my Super K has a little something extra of interest.  Thanks, guys.

Capt.Dick I see the the boy's got you on the right track...One thing on most of all of the Victor models at least they used a peel and stick sticker and if you don't like em you can peel right off.....no harm done....bowdoc

Putting a Victor sticker on a Grayling Bear was like an putting an AMF sticker on a Harley.

(I don't think there is much demand for after market Victor stickers.)

You're right Tony. I gave 1 away this year with some SK decals. Never heard back to see if the guy used it or not.
