Help with 2 Kodiak's
« on: November 09, 2008, 12:13:00 AM »
I picked up my first 2 classic Bears today. The first is a Kodiak Magnum serial  KU16039 it has a AMO of 52 and a draw weight of 50#, it's in really good condition. The second is a Kodiak hunter serial 7T9956 it has a AMO of 58 and a draw weight of 42#. It has one tiny scuff mark that I have almost buffed out my rubbing it with my thumb. Both are labeled as Michigan bows if you could give me any info on date and value it would be greatly appreciated. The wife is going to flip when she finds out I bought them so it would be great if I had a second opinion on there value to back me up. BTW I paid $125.00 total for the bows.  :bigsmyl:

Sorry Danny but the photo bucket thing is over my skill level. I also rushed off before giving a better description. Despite the fact it's 0 out and dark I wanted to shoot the bows badly.

The Magnum is 2 tone green diamond wood(?) with a blue accent, green glass and a silver coin. Hunter looks like rosewood with a copper coin, green limbs and Ivory colored tip overlays.

I totally get the passion for these bows now. The hunter is beautiful and a wonderful shooter. Unfortunately I don't have a string for the magnum yet but I'm really looking forward to shooting it.

Rick

The Kodiak Magnum is a '67, first year for the model and the most collectible.  In my opinion, it is the best KH ever made.  Ie should be a great shooter.  I think the standard wood that year was SHEDUA

The Kodiam magnum is a '70's model with the "K" being the first digit in the SN.  Without a picture, it will be tough to date.

Welcome to the world of the "Technologically challenged"...I can't do photo bucket either.  I wish they would do a "browse" postong like Woodies has.  Just browse "my pictures"  and post.

Bored on a lazy Sunday morning got me thinking about cracking the code.

1.Are there any 1965 - 70 bows with less than a 4 digit number?
2. Which alphabet letters were used after the year prefix besides T?

Been thinking that the code must not be completely random, must have been a way for Bear to track production, sales, distribution, or worker efficiency.

Time for coffee.
