Advice on a possible trade
« on: December 01, 2008, 05:38:00 PM »
Guys, I need your advice.
Someone might want to trade his Smithwick Citation for my Bear TD Hunter. The Smithwick Citation looks very nice. I know next to nothing about these bows other than they were made by Tom Jennings I guess in the 50s, early 60s. It’s 46# @ 28" and 69" long. The serial number is 363. I saw a well preserved Smithwick Custom Deluxe go for only $114 not to long ago on the E-Pay so I wonder if this bow has any collector dollar value to it. I value my Bear TD Hunter at around $150-$175 right now. I do not use it much and has no sentimental value. I cannot test drive the Smithwick, it is at the other end of the continent. So I was wondering what would you guys do? - Simon

Simon:
The Smithwick in its day was one of the best, many of the top shooters of the time used them. I believe Joe Fries won the nationals with that bow, I know at one time Jay Peak, Lou Shine and Jo McCubbin all shot Tom's bows, These people were the best of the best in the 60's and 70's. Lou was even still in the top 20 into the late 70's and she was no spring chicken in the 70's

I'd trade.

Smithwick is a great bow and one heck of a good shooter as Bob mentioned. If the bow is solid and not beat up I would swap in a heart beat, not that the BH T/D is not a good bow too.But I've also seen Smithies sell for well over 400.00 and have actually sold two at that price myself so as far a value goes the Smithwick for sure. We'ed all love to see pics if the deal goes down...bowdoc
