I've used Versa Mend epoxy. It's thinner, plus I warm it in hot water. It will get as thin as water and suck down into a crack. There is a difference between the common "super-glue" at your local hardware store and the industrial quality glues. Even the Lock-tite has different variations. Just as fast set epoxy has less strength than slow set epoxy.
Since the grip area is covered with leather a dowel wouldn't hurt.

Oh yes Loc tite 420 is industrail grade and is way different then your over the counter loc tite for sure. You can NOT buy LT-420 at any local hardware stores..But Loc tite 420 is already thinner then water with no need for heating.According to the LT rep it is designed to draw its self into gaps and cracks.LT has one of the highest bonding strengths of any of the super glues.Gel super glues and slow setting supers are great for tip overlays and things like that but will not draw into that gap.The dowels are your call,I'am just saying in over 100 1959 Kodiak repairs I've made I've never used dowels other then to plug holes.I just dont like drilling into the ibeams...but like I said your call.bd
