Bear Kodiak ??
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:08:00 PM »
Found an older Bear Kodiak Special, pewter coin with a touch of black remaining, mint green limbs, solid rosewood riser today and bought it from an older gentleman. Glass is immaculate-no stress or cracking at all. Tips tight and immaculate as well. Finish on riser side cracking and rough but other side was reasonably smooth. No #'s as the finish had cracked on that side. Spent the last four hours sanding down and will finish in a tung oil semi-gloss.
Know by no #'s and refinish it has no collector value but it will be a fine shooter. Strung it and it is straight limbed and in the mid 40#'s. Believe it is 64"
My question is what year is it? Hope someone can give me an idea from the info provided. Thanks in advance.
BTW- the man also had a bear static tip, a bear  Victor target bow and numerous others. Hope to run into him again.

Thanks BD- that what I thought as well, looking forward to shooting it when the finish and new string come together. Think 2 or 3 coats of tung oil will be sufficient, with fine steel wool in between coats? Really am not a fan of high gloss.

I'm gonna  go with Doc. the '62ks came in 3 legenths 63",66"and 69". recommended brace hights 63" 7-8, 66" 7.5-8.5, 69" 8-9. put a Trap feather rest on that baby and you will have a real sweet shooter. hope this helps good luck and have fun.

yep, I agree with bd, 1962. Tru oil works well too.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.
