Old Kodiak

Not knowing much about old recurves I thought would ask some questions here. A friend has three Bear recurves he wants to sell. One is an old static recurve with the original leather grip in very good condition with all the decals and numbers are K-4 7702-B 61#. The other two are Grizzlies KR-55135 #45 and KR- 68654 #45. All are in excellent condition. He wants $150.00 for the Kodiak and $125.00 each for the Grizzlies. What can you guys tell me about these? Good deals, good shooters etc?

From what I watch daliy on that auction site. Those prices are very good if they are in the shape indicated. And could be steals    And leftys or dual shelves in the bunch you don't want. Please give me a PM

The Kodiak is like a 1951 and if it is in good shape, that is a very good deal. More like a steal. The Grizzlies are 1970's and good shooters but not worth a lot.
Take the Kodiak and let hormoan have the Grizzlies!

The bow seems to be in very good shape and doesn't appear to have been shot much. There are some lines in the glass but none appear to be severe.
I don't think it has the aluminum lam. Would a bow like this be considered a wall hanger or can they be shot?

Hard to say for sure without pics or seeing the bow. Generally those bows are shooters. Examine it inch by inch looking for cracks especially along the edges. Then string it up carefully with a bow stringer. Very gradually pull more and more till you can come to full draw. I would allow a couple of hours for this if you have any doubts at all. Go shoot!
BTW the aluminum lam is very obvious-a layer of yellowish bright metal along the belly edge.
If it has one of those I would suggest you enjoy it on the wall.

Thanks for the info, I'll probably get the Kodiak. I was hoping when I went to look at it  that it might be a later model Kodiak or Super K. The poundage is higher then I usually shoot, but what the heck it's kind of a cool bow.

I'm not sure how you guys come with overpriced on the Grizzlys. Do a completed search on that auction site. I do believe you will see them going average from $125-225. + shipping They may not be great collector piece's. An I'm not against buying RH ers cheap and making a few bucks on you RH ers either    LOL Well some of ya anyway   :D

I agree with you hormoan...those grizzlies are not overpriced if in decent shape. They may not be a bargain either, but could be a good hedge.

The grizzlies seemed to be in very good condition. The guy is mostly a compound shooter and I don't think any of them have been shot much. Maybe I should offer him 300.00 for all three.
