Since Dons online class,

Here is my 3rd tip replacement,I have done a little more shaping since this pic.
Its a Ben Pearson bow, for my daughter.

Rich, you can call this a 60's toenail

They look nice. I’ll be doing some soon so...

3 quick questions please :

What material did you use?
Where do you find the material?
What glue did you use?

Thanks

-Simon

Thanks Mike

Hey Simon
I make the phenolic I used,
so I find it in my garage. lol

I use 2 part epoxy (devcon brand)for attaching them to the limbs.

I will be glad to help you out, let me know.

I did a small "how to" a few weeks ago, somewhere in this forum.
Very easy to make.

Kurt

I remember that thread now

 http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=001783

Thanks for the help proposition. I am waiting on a 59 Grizzly that has «tip issues». I’ll refinish the bow from A to Z with BowDocs thread. The PO is going to send me fiberglass for the tips so I might wait a while before doing my own phenolic.

Thank You all,
I was having a good old time reshaping and reducing weight on this bow, for my daughter and got cocky.

Tip overlays are pretty easy, want to talk tough,
the overlays in the middle of the bow..

1st one on a Herters CV looked like a wooden oval pimple on the bow.

2nd one, this one, looks like a 1st grader got into the crayons, after a sugar snack.

I learned one good one, I can pass on,
On a black background, don't start with black on the bottom of your stacks.

Still to learn,
Shaping the phenolic layers so they are equal?(hint hint)
Been like a comedy trying to get them right,I'm into the 3rd layer down, no end in sight.

   Pics to come
     Kurt
