ST. CharlesThunderbird flew home to roost.
« on: February 26, 2009, 02:35:00 PM »
I was checking the trad history threads and got a knock on the door.I sprinted down the stairs with my Doberman in tow.I knew what it was!

My 2nd generation St.Charles Thunderbird was here.I tore into the package and pulled out a tremendous replica of the beautful T-bird.Its all yew riser and stunning hand selected Yew limbs blew me away at 1st sight. The limbs are the finest Yew I have seen no doubt and I have had a few Yew limbed bows.Tips are black horn I believe.

Its 63 inches and should be 54#s at my 30 inch draw.It has a single shelf instead of double shelfed like some have.

These are sure beautiful and nostolic bows and qualify as an instant classic in my book.

Just thought I would share.I am pretty stoked.Thier is something special about this bows appearance, lines and the history that proceeded it.It is also signed by Mr. St. Charles and his son Jay.Thats iceing on the cake. The bow looks to be near immaculate and has a very nice finish on it.Its # 288 out of the 300 that were made.Sorry no pics guys. You can see the bows if you do a search on the web under St. Charles Thunderbird and get some literature as well on the subject.

Time to step outside and shoot a few arrows.String looks like B-50.I will try it and then a Dynaflight.

Shoot straight!

Bjorn;

What did Jay say about using the D97?  I love mine too much to risk damage to it.

I got a chance to shoot it.Sweet shooter all around.Reminds alot of the 64 inch kodiak 59er really. How it feels and handles. The grip is very similar as well.I shot 2018s and 2020s.Both flew well.I think I like the 2020s cut to 31 inches 145 grain heads.Probably weigh around 625 grains or so.

Both strings shot well.A very small thump in the hand with the B-50 as expected. You would not notice it all if all you shot was the B-50.Still real nice though and  very quiet like everyone says.

Dynaflight was faster as expected it seemed with little to no handshock.

I just tested a 10 strand B-50 with built up loops on it.The b-50 that came with it was pretty fat.Maybe 16 strand or more.Anyay I really like the 10 strand.shoots very nice.Better than the fat B-50.has better manners and very little vibration in the hand.

I will get a 12 strand made for it too I believe in B-50

I like it alot!!!

Jay said if you want it to last for centuries use B50! LOL
The bow really perks up with the skinny string.
I have a 58# and a 53# @ 28. The 58# got an 8 strand D97-don't tell Jay.
The 10 strand B50 sounds pretty good too.
