York Coronet
« on: March 15, 2009, 01:59:00 PM »
I just got the wife a York Coronet, 66", 34# recurve.  My son got it from a fella he was workin' with.  The guy had it layin' in the rafters in the garage.  He hadn't used it in years and when my son told him how I was into Trad, he said I could have it if wanted it.
I'm refinishing it for the wife, she really likes it.  It has a 62" string on it with a brace height of 9 3/4", with no twists on the string.
Does anyone know what the brace height should be?  or where I can find some info on this bow.  Haven't had much luck findin' any info.
  Thanks for any help.....

Usually a string on a recurve should be 4" shorter than the bow length. In this that doesn't seem to work. Is the bow marked 66"? I would think that your brace height should be around 7 1/2" to 8 1/2".

Yep, the bow's marked 66".  I thought somewhere close to 8" should be about right.
Is there a way to figure what length string it would take to decrease the brace about 2" ?  I don't make strings and want to get a new one right away, but I don't know what length to get.
I guess I could use just about anything for measuring purposes, like heavy string. I think I'll try that.  thanks........

News Flash......the bow isn't 66", that is what's painted, real plain, easy to read 66".  That's probably why the guy put a 62" string on it.
I measured it, with a steel tape rule, and it looked like 69" to me.  I'm wonderin' if I should get a 66" string ?  Why else would they put 66" on a 69" bow?
Have any of ya's run into this before ?  I imagine BowDoc has seen most everything....thanks guys...

Archery Archives shows the Coronet starting in "67" and running thru the early "70"s. It only shows a 66" model with a 8 1/2" brace height.
