WOODEN BLUNTS

I have a couple of old arrows with wooden blunts on them. One blunt is cracked and glued, the other is in good shape. Were wooden blunts available commercially or were they homemade? Notice on the one photo that there is about 20 feet of string attached to the arrow for retrieval purposes, I guess.

I think those are for shooting wooden birds suspended from a wire called popping jay's.Rather then a wood type field tip.
