Bear A riser string and brace question

Ok, Got my Bear type 1 A riser, also got a set of #2 red tips that will make a 58" bow and a set of #3 white tips that will make a 60" bow.

1. What actual string length do I need? I tried a 54" string which should be for a 58" recurve and it is way too long on the red tip limbs,I am thinking an 8" brace and if I use this string I will have to put way too much twist in the string, may work on the white tips but those are on the way to bowdoc for a refinish so cannot verify.

2. what brace should I be looking at?

Danny, I usually start at 8" to the throat on my Bears, takedowns or Super K's......Shick

7 1/2 7 3/4 is just about right for me.On the string length Bear take downs are weird to say the least.You can actually shoot those bows with a brace from around 7 to somewhere around 9...bowdoc

I like to shoot them with the string groove on the belly of the limb at the tip; showing a little. With an A riser and #3 limbs this makes quite a bit of brace height but shoots smooth and fast with no throb(even at shorter draw lengths). That is the only way I've been able to shoot #3 limbs on an A riser with out them throbbing.

I'm not big on flemish strings, but I understand that one advantage is they can be adustable in length.  I would get an adustable flemish string, play with the adjustments until you find the exact right length.  Once you have determined that, measure the string for length and order an endless loop dacron B string exactly like you want it.  

I also think the exact right brace height not necessarly as critcal a factor for the bow, as it is for the individual shooter.  I know a bow will have a sweet spot, but that can vary from bow to bow of the exact same model.  The individual shooter is constant to himself.

Exactly like Artifaker1; I use the string groove for indicator and like how they shoot like this on "A" and "B" handles.

Well got a new string. Braced at 8" and with rubber spider silencers at the 1/4" marks on the string and a nock of 9/16" This thing is quiet as a mouse with the #2 60# red tip limbs. I love this bow. Also got me a string for the #3 white tips that bowdoc is refinishing for me, they are 65# on this A riser and I hope they shoot as well as these red tips. I am a very happy man.

Those A's are great shooters and I think those are one of the best shooting best looking take down bows ever..bowdoc
