Old Archery Stuff
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:02:00 PM »
Today I picked up an old hunting set that included the original J.C. Higgins (Sears) box.

Inside the box were 6 cedar arrows with some "mystery" broadheads, a fiberglass takedown 50# Ben Pearson bow and a brochure dated 1954.

Anyone familiar with the broadhead?  The only marking was a patent #.

Cool find Lon! I love it when someone I sorta know gets ahold of a keeper. I've forgotten the name of the heads but Pearson sold a bunch of them before the deadhead and switchblade models came along. Looks kinda "ribtek"y don't it?

Cool find there Lon.

You got it "right" too, if I remember.

From the photo, a Ben Pearson instruction booklet on how to shoot, etc. accompanied the archery set.  J. C. Higgins also produced a small archery handbook providing basic instructions on how to shoot, etc.  Nice acquisition!

Lon -

Your broadhead is the common 2.50" 4x4 Sloped Shoulder Ben Pearson broadhead shown on page B-15-2 in "Broadheads 1871-1971 Identification and Rarity Guide, Second Edition".

I believe the entire outfit (except perhaps the box) was made by Ben Pearson for J.C. Higgins including the T/D bow and the arrows.
