Cliff Coe late 40's Stiff-Ear Recurve
« on: April 10, 2009, 10:22:00 PM »
By what I see in Cliff's book this is a late 1940's stiff-eared recurve. I don't see a weight on it, but Cliff's signature is on the limb, looks to be etched into it.

Roy nice bow. Cliff made some real beauties.

The marking on your bow is my favorite of Cliff's. I have seen some marked this way that are perfectly clear. I have a few of Cliff's  bows, but none with that marking.

You have probably seen a photograph of a bow like this on page 48 of Cliff's book, that is dark with light accent stripes. This is my favorite Coe bow in the collection. Cliff simply wrote in script on the opposite side "COE".

In his book, Cliff describes it as

"Coe Double Action Recurve
Experimental. Yes, It can be made to work. Good conversation piece."

Maybe someone can help me figure out the proper length string to make for it... Measuring the AMO way, doesn't seem to work... LOL

Here are a few other bows that are marked Coe... The bottom one has brush nocks like the one Bill posted above and like Cliff shows on page 49 in his book.

Wade, I believe that "Double Action" recurve up there, was designed for 3-d shooting. It will just shoot around trees and limbs into the target. HAH..

Wade, have you tried a tillering string on that bow? That would get you pretty close! I have a Coe brochure somewhere, I need to find it. I also have a picture of him talking to a friend of mine at the first primitve shoot at Marshall Michigan from the early 90's. Only wish I had one of his bows! Steve

I have Cliff's 2nd bow he ever made.  It is shown with him shooting it on pg 48 top pic.  I was curious if there is any serious Coe collectors that could tell me what king of value this bow has.  My Grandfather was Cliffs good hunting partner for years.  He is featured on pages 113,226,229.  I have a handful of Coe memorabilia also.
