1959 or 1960 Grizzly?
« on: May 11, 2009, 04:26:00 PM »
FE 021 what year of 62" Bear Grizzly would that be? Also what color should the coin be? It has a multi colored handle.

Thanks!

Bowdoc has it right. In addition, and this applies to 1959 and 1960 Grizzlies only; serial nos prior to FK are 1959. This is based on 35 1959 and 1960 Grizzlies that I was luck enough to view, most of which I fondled.
Coins varied, most were Brass and some were German Silver(like 1960 Kodiak), one was aluminum and another copper; and the last two could have been replacements along the way. I would love to compare results with others if you have kept notes.

Thanks guys but can't tell the tip material from pictures. Was the glass color rust type brown on belly and sort of yellow/green on back? The coin appears silver color-definitely not brass and not the same as in the 1961/62 Grizzly's, correct?

The coins are not very consistant but the glass fits your description.

The tips look like paper micarta-same as yours Mike-but they have 4 layers, black/white/black/white.

Bjorn,

Here are pictures of my 2 '59/'60 vintage Grizzlies.  I thought I knew the difference-2 dark chevrons below the sight window for a '59 and one dark chevron for a '60.  The first set of pictures, the SN is FB.  The second set SN is FG.  The first bow looks like micarta, the second looks different-fiberglass??
Bow 1

Bow 2

So, do I have 2 59's or a 59 and a 60?

Thanks.
