Serial number id

I am thinking about buying a Kodiak Special that has the numbers 248 before the A in the serial number. From what I have been able to find the 2 indicates the 66 inch length. What I would like to know is what the 4 and the 8 indicate.

I just recently got into traditional archery at age 57 and as a gun nut, fly fisherman and golfer, buying older bows seems pretty inexpensive. If  I do buy this bow it will be my fourth (and last at least for a while). They will all be 66 inches in length, mostly because I shoot at a 30 inch draw length.

 Do a search for Kodiak Special on this forum and it will show a picture of every year and let you know how to tell them apart .

I managed to get that bow from the auction site, even though a couple of others were after it in the last minute. I was at my school classroom with 43 seconds left and it was at 200 bucks. When I got home for lunch and checked I had paid 310 for it.

I like to buy from people who do not specialize in items. The best deal I ever got on a fly rod was from a guy who usually sells trains. This bow came from an estate auction. The nice part is that while I was bidding on it the seller offered a hat that was exactly my size. Now I am a sucker for interesting hats so I bought it without any hesitation.

Maybe the best part of the whole process though was finding this "club". I have never been much of a collector, but I am a dedicated accumulator. I learned a long time ago that in order to find the best information about something new all you need to do is find the best people. Very clearly the best Kodiak people are right here!  

Now the waiting process starts. I have a Damon Howatt Ventura in transit from Tennessee that I started dealing on at the beginning of the month. One of the disadvantages of living in the North is that things can take a while to get here. Then again when was the last time you got to see 28 bears on your way to and from a 3D shoot?

Once the bow arrives I will post some pics of the bow and then one of me with the bow and the hat. I have a feeling they will become inseparable companions.

Hey I just realized when I reread my post that I should have added a little something. The bears that we saw were the furry kind not the wood and glass kind.

On the other hand that may have been a sign to me that it was time to own a Bear bow!
