Herter's Bows

     Used to be a lot of fuss about Herter's bows. Probably the best catalog ever. Wish I still had them.

Never owned a Herter's. Were these good bows or mostly hype??

Herters made some nice bows. Some of the perfection models had huge rosewood risers. Known to fail and I sold quite a few to knife makers who wanted the rosewood for handles. Other models were good shooters and good lookers and nothing wrong with them at all. Well known for their mustard colored glass they used years ago. They made some real nice bows.

I had one for only a very short time until I sold it. Odd thing about the bow I noticed: The "sticker" on the limb was quite substantial  but had held up remarkably well over all the years. Seemed like a nice bow but not my style.

Interesting. Ever see a Herter's catalog? He was a taxidermist wasn't he?

8bay has Herters catalogues on a regular basis, I have a few in the house. I also have about 10 of their old bows, had more but a sold a few recently.

Herters had bows with big chunks of Brazilian rosewood in the risers and  a swank combination of mustard yellow and black glass.

The CV17s are good bows, imho. I've had two and the one I have now is a 69" target model.

They are certainly good looking. How do they compare to Bear bows for shooting?

Can't help you there, never owned a Bear recurve. Strange considering I lived in Michigan from 56' to 89' !
