Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet refinish
« on: June 16, 2009, 11:09:00 AM »
I recently picked up a couple of Jets from a fellow in BC.  One is a 55# from the mid 80's that is in really good shape.  The other is a 53# from the early 70's that had seen some better days.

I'm not sure if Jack's early finish didn't offer much UV protection, or if these bows were stored in direct sunlight for most of their lives, but the wood on both bows is heavily oxidized.  The 55# is in such good shape aside from the color change that I can't bring myself to strip it.  The 53# on the other hand needed so much work that I dug right in.

This is my first attempt at posting pics so I hope this works.  Here are the before photos.

The beautiful rosewood had oxidized to "tobacco spit brown":

Don't forget to put some holes in the glass:

Hey, a rasp will get that bow closer to centershot:

Was that bow owned by the "Butcher of B.C"?   :scared:      :scared:   Just kidding, I'm sure you can fix her up! CKruse

Cameron, there was no name on the bow, but it certainly was owned at one time by the infamous "Wood Butcher of BC".  I think the "Wood Butcher of BC" comes from a large family and has relatives all over the US and Canada.

Here are some pics after the repair and refinish. I had new decals made with the help of Howattfan (thank you).  Like all of Jack's bows, she is a real screamer, and now she looks nearly as good as she shoots.

Here are a couple of pics of the old holes:

The wood butcher's rasp work blended in:

Great job...looks as good as any I have hanging on my wall.

I think you can still get Jack's logos from Miss Dorothy.
