Ben Pearson Palomino

Hi All

A newbie here with his first bow in the post on it's way to him.....it is an early '70s 62" 50#@28 Palomino that is in good used condition - about an 8.5 out of 10 apparently.

My question is - what can I expect in terms of shooting characteristics from a Palomino ?
I know that some of the early 60's bows were works of art - Ckruse's 1962 Palomino is most probably the most stunning bow I have seen whilst lurking in these forums.

Are they balanced in the hand ? Much hand shock ?

I know I can just wait a week or so to find out myself but just wondered how other owners find theirs to shoot....and I have never been very good at waiting !

cheers
Tubby

Tubby,

I have a 1962 40# and it is a pleasure to shoot.  No hand shock, quiet, just a real nice bow.  Oh yeah, they are absolutely georgeous!  Good luck.

Tubby,

Just so you know, I think the last year that the Palomino was made was 1968.  You may want to verify the info on your bow.

Thanks Dave - now that you mention it I do remember reading that they finished in 1968.....I am not going to panic....I am not going to stress over what the heck have I actually bought  ?

Maybe the expert I bought it from just made a typo .....doh

Tubby,

Can you post a photo?  We could tell you pretty quickly if you have a Pal or not.

Tubby,  Is that the one that went on flexxx bay last week?  Dave and I are trying to corner the market on Palominos. LOL.  They do have a tendancy toward limb twist as they are a target bow that was later converted to more field use and hunting.  The earlier ones had pretty skinny   long limbs and the latter ones widened out for stability.  They are nice shooters and gorgeous if you are lucky enough to get a rosewood model.

Have a couple of photos but none as close up as I would have liked...

Having trouble attaching them to this reply...will have to go to FAQ to work it out...

I don't own one nor have I shot one but they are some eye-catching beauties.

Don't know what you have there but I don't think it's a Palomino.  At least I haven't seen one like that.  Does it have stickers CAT numbers or decals on it?  I could be wrong...........but we learn something new everyday.  Bill

Tubby,

I agree with Bill.  Can you give us the serial numbers and what does the decal look like?  Post a photo of it if you can.

Looks like a soverign series or maybe even a herters.  A few different places made the lam bow patterns when it was popular.

I hope you are wrong Bill - I really do !! The guy that I bought it off seemed to have only great feedback and is a regular seller of bows in Europe.
I had made up my mind to take my time and not rush in - try lots of bows as everyone recommended and then I saw Ckruse's 1962 Palomino and all reason disappeared out the window.

Tubby,

Without decals or serial numbers we will have a hard time solving your mystery.

Could it be a Baron?  Early 60s Vintage.

Or a Pinto????
