Some old odds & ends I found today...
« on: July 25, 2009, 11:08:00 PM »
Long story, long:  Again I am blaming you guys.  Ever been in a position where you know you shouldn't buy that stuff, but just can't resist? I mean, for some of it you haven't seen anything like it in years and know you won't see it again, so ya just gotta spend the money?   :knothead:

So I find this little hardware store today and the standard conversation takes place about me looking for recurve stuff, preferably old recurve stuff. 'Nope, don't have any of that anymore.'

How about anything like this old Bear fish arrow still in the package with the head? 'No, nothing else.'

Ok...would you let me poke around in the boxes under this counter? It looks like there are some bowfishing heads and stuff there. 'Ok, go ahead, the bowfishing points are in back.'

So I find 1 box (2-3 dozen) of 2-blade Zwickey Black Diamonds that I left for seed (not enough money)     , a few fishing heads like the one in the photo,  the package of MA-3s (which I just thought was neat and I could afford!), a bag of the old rubber fisharrow fletching, the Kwikee Silencers (which I really like to use), and that crazy little Pocketpod.

You guys have probably all seen that before, but I get a kick out of the pocketpod--that's some crazy stuff!

So are you sure you don't have anything else? I ask.   :clapper:

Then I get sidetracked because I spotted and snagged two 1918 Autumn Orange xx75 arrows. And I love those arrows thanks to CKruse and the Maryland crew. And lo and behold this nice fellow has two dozen old stock 1918 inserts for the arrows I have at home.

Back on track and more prodding and he says 'I may have some rests (brush rests), but I need to get the ladder.' He climbs up and doesn't find any rests, but as he is moving things around I spot the Converta Bowquiver Adapter Kit hanging with the stuff he is moving out of the way to look for brush rests!

By the time I left he was giving me great video notes (i'll share them sometime later) about things like how he couldn't afford to be a dealer because Bear at the time required a $50,000 purchase due in 30 days. Some interesting historical notes.

I ended up getting out of there a lot lighter in the wallet, but SO WHAT!!!

Then I walk into another hardware and they were closing, but I bought those weird round blunts and those large tan brush buttons that I can't seem to find anywhere before the fellow locked the doors for the day. I need to go back there, too.

Nap time.

Bernie

Bernie, it sounds like you have a nice little "honey hole",if you happen to find any of the "Whisper Rests" I would like them.
Curved spring steel(like feeler gauge) with fur or rug on top of curve.
I bought one of those "Pocket Pods a few years back at Comptons. It's always in my pack. Haven't used it yet, but I know I will someday-it's just too handy!
Thanks again for your help on the trade with Rainman!

Geez, I gotta stop doing this--just sucking up time and money.

Throwing this pic up from my scavenging this week because I think Raghorn will be interested in the lower left corner.

Bernie - Great find.

I have the same Kwikee Silencer display, but there are only two pairs left on mine.

Those large Bush Buttons are the best. I see your package is Fleetwood, the packages I have do not have a manufacturer, but they are called "Super Brush Buttons". All cool stuff to have in the original packages.

That bow quiver adapter is a handy item for those A Handles you have.

Hey D.

You may be on to something there. Maybe we should keep a reference list of 'things' folks are looking for.  I left a few odds and ends for seed at that shop, but if I knew someone was looking I would have grabbed them.

Just didn't want to sink more money into them if I didn't have to.

I saw those Whisper Rests last week, but didn't know better and the guy was closing so I left them.

But since Raghorn mentioned them it gave me a reason to drive the two and a half hour round trip again this week and poke around some more.

Heck, just last week Raineman mentioned on another site that he reallllllyyyy wanted a Bear wood T/D, and one of his friends remembered that at Denton and snatched one up for him. So maybe putting in orders is a good idea!

As it was I snatched a bunch of Easton catalogs and arrow tech bulletins from him--had a whole pile until he started saying how that was worth a lot and if I was going to open an archery store I should be paying more for them.

So I started putting some of them back on his shelf and he backed off a bit because his junk pile was growing again!

And I reassured him that I am not opening an archery store, that I am only wacko who collects other folks' castoffs, and if I was to open an archery store, I wouldn't be buying the stuff that had sat on his shelf for the past 20 years to stock the store!  He told me I was the first archery sale he had in a year...

He was a great guy, just suddenly saw dollar signs when I walked in the door.
