Bear Kodiak?
« on: September 27, 2009, 12:00:00 PM »
Just picked up this Bear Kodiak and would like some ideas as to its birth year and value.  Its 60", 50X# RH,  The limbs are dark green and the riser is lighter green with a blue stripe with white green white overlays on the back of handle. One insert for a quiver.  The lower limb decal says Bear Archery, Grayling Michigan.  The top limb has a decal saying Bear glass-powered, Kodiak HUNTER. It has a silver bear medallion on the right side of riser.  The bow comes with a green Bear bow quiver that attaches with one small nut that screws into the single insert.  Also are four green wood arrows with the Bear name near the crest and Bear broad heads. No string. Bow is in pretty good condition with some nicks and scratches. Serial # is KT76741. Can any one give me some help with this one?   Thanks Chuck.

Kodiaks and Kodiak Hunters are two different animals.
Pretty much all of the collecting fervor is on the early models (Pre-1968).. Kodiaks, Kodiak Deluxes, Specials and to some extent the earlier Kodiak Magnums and Super Kodiaks. And of course the Take Downs are in a class by themselves.
It will probably be some time before the died Green Maple Hunters and Magnums will ascend to collectors.
Value is higher today  that just a couple years ago, but seldom does one sell for over $200.00
Many have died for my freedom.
One has died for my soul.

Does it look like this?

If so, it should be a  1973-1975.

Thanks for your input. Your bow is exactly like mine.  I am advertising mine for sale for $180 with quiver and arrows.  Is that a reasonable price?

I will let someone else answer that is more qualified.  I'm not sure what the run.  I got mine from a co-worker that bought in in early 80's from a garage sale and never shot it. I feel that I got a steal at $80.  But with the quiver and arrows, that sounds about right to me.

What kind of shape is the quiver in?  Can you post pics? Would you be interested in selling just the quiver?

I sent you a message last evening and got notice that is may mot be deliverable, so will do so here.  I have no pictures of the bow or quiver yet, soon I hope. I will try to sell the bow, quiver and arrows as a package.  If no responses in a week we can talk further.  Chuck
