colors on bear alaskan?
« on: October 02, 2009, 10:10:00 AM »
I have a bear alaskan that my son likes to shoot. Its 62" 25# @28". The serial # is 9F12800. The colors have yellowed. How can I get it back to the right color? Is the belly supposed to be white?...Thanks Roy

I was told rubbing alcohol would work but was unsuccessful on the one I tried. If the varnish is evenly yellowed and looks good it will still shine up and look good.

I have had good luck with Flitz polish cleaning up older bows, and it does get rid of some of the yellow.

I do know that if the bow came from a home with a heavy smoker, some of the yellowing can be accounted for by that.  I am thinking that once it has yellowed, it has yellowed and not much can be done, so am afraid the only way to get back the original colors will be to refinish, or have it refinished by bowdoc or droptine.
