Wing Bows (Houston Shop, Original Wings)
« on: October 29, 2009, 03:11:00 PM »
Any wing collectors out there? Anyone have any info on or own a Wing Bow made in the original Houston Shop?

After doing some searching it seems like a former member WingNuts was an authority on Wing Bows. Some of his posts were very informative.

I am curious to what all models they made back then.

Bob Gossdeck(I think is the correct spelling) and Al Harford were two of the formost Wing Archery tackle collecters I ever knew.Booth gone but never forgotten.
Glenn StCharles told me on more then one occation he felt a Red Wing Hunter was by far the finest shooting recurve bow ever manufactured.bd

I have that link saved also.  The following link
 http://www.archeryhistory.com/ads/ads.htm
and also under the "recurves" section has some pictures of Wing bows.

I have a 1962 that technically still belongs to my dad.  Love the Brazilian Rosewood.  I also have the original cardboard box for the bow that has "Wing Archery Company - Houston, Texas" in larg green letters printed on box.  Interestingly my father bought the bow in Austin, Texas from a sporting goods store called "C & S - Sporting Goods Co." that was located on 2120 Guadalupe Street.

My dad had the bow shipped from Austin to Florida where he was stationed.  The box is post marked May 23 1963 and cost 77 cents to mail.

The box was made by the Gaylord Container Division of the Crown Zellerbach Corporation in Houston, Texas.

I gave a 60# Wing Cheetah to my son. I think it was 64". It was a very nice shooting recurve.

I don't have any Red Wing Hunters but I do have a pair of early Wing Presentations. Both of them out of Houston.

I hunted with the top one for about a year before I decided I should keep her out of the weather.

I have a Wing Presentation that I'm sure was made in the Houston shop. It looks the same shape as the top bow in your picture except the handle wood is brazilian rosewood and the serial number is P-01, 66" and 44#. Have also owned many 58" and some 62" REd Wing Hunters that were all made in Houston.

Have a RWH, 58", 46@28" serial # R-170, from Houston shop.  Just love it.  shoots fast and hard.  I shoot it quite often and plan to hunt with it.
