TX hog hunt results
« on: January 29, 2007, 09:57:00 AM »
Well we got back from our TX hog hunt last night at 10:45.  We had a great trip and got 15 hogs at home in the freezer between the seven of us.  We got hogs from 25#-225# with the average about 75#.  Here are the results of the hunt.

54# BW PSA.  1 hog with WW/1 with thunderhead
65#BW PSA. 2 hogs with 145gr snuffer
48# BW PSA. 3 hogs with 100gr razorcaps
41# BW PSA. 1 hog with 100gr razorcaps
49# BW PL.  3 hogs with 145gr WW

Plus 4 more from our buddies with compounds.

I could not tell a dimes worth of difference between any of the heads we used on the hogs. We did not recover every hog we shot, but did not talk about that because I did not want to start a rucus(sp.  All penatrated about the same and gave about the same blood trail.  This is the second year that I have gone on the hunt and makes 24 hogs that we killed with bows. Keep in mind the largest hog we shot with trad gear was @ 125#.  The 225# boar was shot with a compound.

thanks
citori

The ranch is 1 mile from Bradford off highway 19....

My shots were CLOSE...like two at 8 yards and one at 3 yards!!!!!I do not think anyone shot over 20 yards at a hog.

I will get the info for you guys tomorrow.

thanks

Well crap....I ran off without getting the info again...

The name of the ranch is Frontier Ranch.  It is 1 mile East of Bradford TX.  The owners name is Bobby Stovall.  He does not advertise anywhere....just word of mouth.  The sleeping quarters are NOTHING fancy at ALL.....just "old hunting cabins"......but the hunting is GREAT. It was $350 for 3 hogs of anysize(with a bow), food, and lodging.  The hunt went from Friday evening to Sunday mornin. We shot hogs from 25#-225#. The average size this trip was @ 75# and we took home 15 hogs with 7 guys. Last year 5 guys took home 9 hogs. He is able to book 7 hunters at a time MAX.  There ae 7 feeders with stands and 1 night feeder with a blind.  Bobby has a natural gas company in Athens TX named Frontier Gas.  I will try to remember to get his # this evening and post it tomorrow for you.

We went to another ranch outside of Omaha TX two years ago.  It was a NICE BIG ranch house to stay in with mounts etc.  The hunting was not ANYTHING like it is at the frontier ranch!!!!! 12 guys brought home 5-6 hogs.

NOW....you wanna have great hunting or great lodging???????

thanks
citori
