Need Trail Cam Recommendation
« on: December 08, 2007, 04:58:00 PM »
I've decided I'm going to get my hunting buddy a trail cam for Christmas so that we...er I mean he..can get some pics of the deer on the property we hunt. I'd like to keep the cost to around $150. I was thinking about the Moultrie Gamespy D40 or the Wildview Xtreme 4. Anyone have any experience with either of these models or can recommend another brand. Thanks
Do not follow where the path may lead.  Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

I have had pretty good luck with the Moultrie D 40. I have not used the Wildview but have heard good things also. I got 2 SD cards to go with mine and just swap em out when I need to check on them.

I have the Moultrie 4.0 with the infrared and it`s been great. I could`nt have the flash as I hunt close to some roads and did`nt want people to see the flash. Also I used it at the local feed store to catch a thief that was repeatedly breaking in. I put it on 3 round burst and got 9 pictures of him from every angle. Local police knew him from the photos they were so good.

I have the Moultrie 4.0, Cabela’s version and I am satisfied with this product. The price was $100. The trigger time is a little slow but if you set the camera up at a mineral lick, feeder or point it down a trail then they work great. If you set these cameras up perpendicular to a trail, you won’t get very good results because of the slow trigger time.

512 MB memory cards from Best Buy are $18.

Sounds like a great gift.

A little more than what your looking for as far as price, but I have 2,an ealier model Penns Woods Digital Scout DSC 03,and now I've added the newer DSC 06.Great cameras, with many options, even video clips(very cool).I picked up extra cards on sale (2gig for $39)and the batteries will go dead before I fill the cards.Great pics, super small units, great customer service, and the digital cameras can be pulled and used for everyday use.If you like to invest a little more, check their website................just all-around great trail cams.

I have an I40. It's a great camera. I've had it in the woods since august on the same set of batteries!!
It's taken over 4,000 pictures!! Moultrie has been working hard to improve their camera line. I think they now make some of the better cameras for the money.
