Restoring
« on: January 03, 2010, 03:25:00 PM »
I started to collect some bows last year and as a beginner I took what I found.Just a few were mint,so I am planning to send some to restore.Do you think that a pro restored bow has the same value of a mint one?Sometime nobody can notice the difference too. Thanks for your input

Here's my two cent's Felix, I would always think an unrestored bow that is Mint would normally hold it's value better than a restored bow being exactly of the same year, model weight etc... But in the case of a collectable bow that is distressed a facelift would add value IMO.
Then again I took a very collectable 59 Kodiak and having Doc restore it and bring it back up to new, with tip replaced and a new finish because I plan on shooting it regularly. If one of the paper tips were to give way while shooting the bow would have it could spell disaster. It will be ready for another 50 years we he is finished. Chris

You had a good reason with that very collectible 59.

Felix, In my very limited experience I would have to agree with Chris 100%. Mint bow would be worth more than one restored.

I guess I consider myself more of an accumulator of bows than a collector I always have my eye on them as shooters. I don't have any that I picked up with hanging them on the wall as the goal.

I too would be curious about this and others with much more expertise than I will chime in.
