Since I own a '68 I'll say that one is the best.

I believe it would be tough to pick just one as the definite, best SK.  I've owned a few and still got a couple.  That first year '67 is a screamer and the '68 is also a looker and shooter.  I can also not forget the '76 blue-striper which is also a winner in my book.

The simple answer:

Whatever 64"er I can get my hands on in 50-55#

The black/rosewood tipped 68 and the blue striper 76 would get my vote.

I get most of the SK but they are of different DWeight so I can't compare them, but all of them are nice and sweet shooters. It could be nice to make a comparative test like the one started by TimberlineX.

John, I own a '69 and a '70 currently but for performance I'm convinced nothing beats the '67 1/2. This was the all phenolic model and in my experience they are the fastest of the bunch. They all shoot well and it's one of my favorite designs, but with the exception of the '67 they aren't really all that fast but shoot great. Grant

I have a "76" that seems to shoot very well with a radius shelf and a very skinny grip. It gets my vote. It also has the future wood on the riser for an overlay, which I also prefer.

In that my '68 SK just arrived it gets my vote, at least for now.  That black w/ rosewood sure makes a good lookin' bow.

I got a new one in 1966 that shot real well and a month or so I got another 66 only 64" and just shoot league with it last. The 64" shoots the best.

A lot of shooters would agree with you Randy. Oddly enough- at least its odd to me- the 60" bow may appear a little faster but the 64 incher stores more energy. I just find the slightly shorter bow to be a bit handier in the brush.
Larry- my '70 has been modified extensively (all my bows have) and I agree that the more narrow grip feels and shoots better but, of course, many guys prefer a more hand-filling grip. I've been shooting these bows for forty years and I doubt I'll ever swith to anythinf else, at least as long as the takedown counts.  Grant

I would have to say that whichever one I'm shooting at the time is the best but I also prefer the ones with the smaller grips. If I get one refinished I will always modify the grip first.

I am working on a 1968, 60" and 60# that was bought new and then put away. It was a fun bow to shoot and accurate. Not as fast as some bows but easy to shoot. I am in the process of modifying the handle, and rest. It will get refinished with new decals/screenings. I agree with the others and but prefer the 67 1/2 thru 69.

Mine is a '75 blue striper....it's also a great bow.  I'd say that all of the Super's prior to '77, when they were discontunued, are great bows.  I don't have any first hand experience with the current crop of Gainsville made bows.

My '74 red stripe is a real sweet shooter, but my '67 1/2 looks like a prom queen and hits like Thors hammer. There all good.   :)

I love them all, but my 64" 67.5 and the 64" 69 shoot the best for me.

If anyone has one that needs a new home, let me know, I would really like to own a hunting weight super kodiak and take a moose with it up here in Alaska. Take care.
