Razorhead? Super Razorhead?
« on: February 03, 2010, 10:10:00 AM »
Just looking for clarification. I have some lime green Bear Razorheads. I also have some Bear Razorheads that are dark green but look structurally the same as the lime green ones. ARe these  "Super Razorheads? If they are, is there any diffrence between the dark green ones and the lime greens ones? I am asking becuse I have read that Super Razorheads are inferior. Thanks.

Elbow- the " Super" was first added to the name with the intro of stainless stell as opposed to the carbon steel used initially. The first Supers were painted a dark charcoal grey and had screw in adapters installed in all of them. Ater Walter Kidde bought the company from Victor, the heads produced were chrome and blue with a ferrule and adapter made in one-piece. I've always used the old carbon heads but I'd personally stop short of claiming the later models were really inferior. I've used them some and wouldn't hesitate to use them again if I needed to. I have a few of the different, somewhat darker green heads but not many and I can't see any difference except paint tint. Hope that helps a little,  Grant

So the darker green ones are the same, are the high carbon steel like the light green ones?

Elbow, I'll second what Grant said. I still have quite a few of the green (?) heads,( I think they're more blonde) and some are a different shade, as well as many of the Dark gray "Supers". I never used or owned any of the stainless/blue ferrule heads.

I shoot the lime green, commomly called the 64's, and the stainless 145 and both shoot great.  I prefer the 145's with my insert and 3 50 grain weights in my gold tips over the lime green razorheads and a steel 125 grain insert and plain GT insert only because of the 145's additional contact/glue area with the shaft versus the 64's (insert and 3 weights inside the shaft versus just an insert).  However, both broadheads are lights out accurate and dependable.  That being said, I took 2 does with my 64 set up this year and the does never complained.  I believe that the darker grean heads are made of a harder steel (harder to sharpen) and were sold after the 64's were discontinued but just before Bear introduced the ss 145's.  I have some but have not tried em uot yet.
