Bear medallion removal ?
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:58:00 AM »
What is the preferred way to remove the coins when refinishing older Bear bows? Have several bows I want to refinish the risers. Also what is the best type of pen to rewrite the serial numbers with?
 Thanks in advance.

Tom -

Check BowDoc's Restoration 101 notes in a Topic in this forum. You will find LOTS of other helpful hints, also. Here is a link:

For the serial numbers I used a fine sharpie.

Thanks for the answers. The tutorial didn't really address  how to remove, just to inscribe with important #'s.
Kenny, have a very fine Sharpie I may try, am working on the Polar and expect to take to ATAR if anyone wants to shoot "classics" again.

My mistake, Tom. BowDoc's instruction on removing coins turned out to be in a Topic called "Restoration tip of the day......". Here is the path to that topic:

it did not show how to heat up the head of a bolt and set it on the coin wait about one minutes for heat transfer then remove the bolt and set a stick of hot melt on the coin coin only not onto the wood.Wait about 3 minutes and pull the coin out stuck to the hot melt ? then just a little heat under the coin and it will slip off the hot melt.Catch it in a paper towel and wipe off excess hot melt and your done bd

Sure had fun shootin with you fellas last year Tom. If things don't change as far as work is concerned, I may not make it this year.

I have a shorty '59 Grizzly I'll be taking the rounds with this year. I'm almost finished with it.
