Bear T/D Mag Handles

Since I now have one on the way, I wanted to ask you guys a couple of quick questions.

#1 What are the actual factory colors that the Mag risers came in?
#2 What do you use for the leather plates on the latches if the originals are gone?
#3 How do you date the handle?

1. Factory color depended on the year. The one you bought is "Little Delta Green" which first appeared in 1974. It is a brighter green than the earlier "Moss Green".

2. Thin leather would be ideal. I always thought something like shoe tongue leather would be good. It's just a thin pad to reduce rattle and protect the limb butts. You will see the area covered on the riser by the old glue line.

3. The Bear catalog CD, whether or not there are Bears on the latches, the presence or absence of a raised button coin, color etc. It's a lot of speculation.

BTW, I need to get to the Post Office!

The pads on the latches were synthetic,about 1/16" thick.The newer bows have suede leather.I think any leather that thickness would work.

I often wondered if you couldn't use one of the sideplates like on the new Bears.It is a similar synthetic material,close to the right size.I think you would have to groove across the underside to get it to fold around the metal.Just never tried it.

The width of the pad is 1".3/4" the other direction would be about right.

Order a "bow saddle" from 3Rivers. That should work fine and it's self adhesive.

I've made them out of leather, and have seen them out of Velcro, as well as a 3/4" dia felt pad like you buy at the store for a lamp.
I am guessing the leather lasts longer.

I just got a "B" mag riser with #2 limbs that come in at 58#. The riser is blue and the limbs are white glass. On the upper limb there is a Knight in armor and it says White Knight. Any idea on it's age ?

Check out the Bear Catalog CD. The bow was named for a target archer whose last name was Knight (I believe). It should be in one of the catalogs from the mid-70's.

The white knight was Vic Burger. One of the top target archers of the late 60's to the end of the 70's. He also was the maker of the burger buton that are still used today. He was one of the first to shoot back to back 300's indoors. Your white knight limbs are from the 73 to 76 time years. In most cases they had red tips, and where number 3's. He was also a member of the Bear shooting team for many years.

bearmagtd was exactly right about my white knight(red tips and #3's). I picked up 4 of the mag takedowns yesterday to add to the collection. Does anyone know the range of the value for these bows? 3 of mine are left handed,2 are long risers,2 short, and an extra one that is long also. 2 have chrome limb clamps and 2 with black clamps, one of the has #2 limbs. This is the first time I had ever seen these bows,But ya gotta buy-em.

Thanks Guys ! My White Knight limbs are #2's and 58 Lbs with red tips. They look like they just left the factory .
