Bear bow ID
« on: February 18, 2010, 03:02:00 PM »
Hi I need a little help. I have a kodiak mag with black overlays and tip overlays. I looked through the catalogs but didn't see any with black.Serial # is 9U2148. Also I have a leather gripped bear bow from the fifties. It's missing the model decal so I'm not sure what model it is or year. The bow is marked 64" XC672 37#. I'm posting some pics. Thank Scott  photobucket.com

Scott,

I still owe you some Phenolic. Seems my supplier is a little short on scraps.

The Kmag looks like a '69 I believe. A very nice and unusual one I might say. Those black overlays look good with that riser.

The other bow is a '56 or'57 Kodiak Special.

Thanks for the help Kenny. I thought it might be a 69 but the catalog does'nt show it with the black. No hurry on the Phenolic as i have lots of projects to keep me busy in the mean time. Thanks again Scott

I'm wrong on the Kodiak special. It's gotta be a '55, with the decals. They switched to transfers in '56. Pbucket is having Malware issues again. Looked like the glass on the back was Pea soup Green??

If this link works you can see a pic of a bow like yours on the first page. Says brown back glass for the 55 but shows green just like yours.

I don't know for sure about the mags but the 69 Kodiak Hunter I have has black tips. I understand that not all of the 69 Kodiak Hunters had black tips so I'm assuming that not all Kodiak magnums had them either. The first year for the Kodiak Magnum was 61 so the decals are wrong.

Dah! Two bows you're talking about. Had my simple mind confused. This might help you with the earlier Bear.
