I got a Bear Kodiak Mag. in a trade this past weekend. It has gold writing on it, serial is 8U2529 I am guessing it is a 68 it is a 44# recurve, 52" long, with green class. Am I right about 68 and does the gold writing mean anything?

Yes, 68', no on the gold. If you draw under 29" where the K-mag begins to stack, you should love this bow.

I draw about 28. I might need to send it to bow doc, it has a lot of tiny stress fractures and two large stress factors.
