Bear Tigercat price??
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:42:00 PM »
My neighbor has asked me to get some info on an old Bear tigercat that he bought new before 1970, it is  62" 46# Zebrawood riser brown glass limbs, serial number is 745926 or 7115926 can't tell about 4 or 11 becuase of wood grain.
He asked me if I know anyone that would like to buy it, think that would be me, he has watched me shooting stickbows for awhile now and knows thats all I shoot, Steve is a good guy lets my daughter hunt his property, and allows me to trap it, I don't want to short change him, bow is in good shape no crazing or checking in the limbs, one small check in the riser goes with the grain, limbs are pretty stained from being stored in the rafters of his garage, but pretty good shape overall, riser check is about 1/2" long in the palm swell, should'nt be a problem, any ideas what it would be worth?? Best advice is to check out the auction sites and see what they go for.  Of course those prices would be top dollar and I'd hope your friend would cut you a bargain.  I would think $125 would make you both happy.

A good place to check is the "completed" auction section of ****.  The zebrawood, 46#, and condition makes this a worthy addition IMO.

I consider the Tigercat a nice shooting bow, but anything over $100 is too much for me.  I believe $75 would be fair for both of you.

It is a 1967 zebrawood tigercat. In good shape they go for about 100 to 150, sometimes a little more for a real nice one. Or a little less if in bad shape like you say with stained limbs and a check or crack in the riser. String the bow and make sure the limbs are not warped. I'd guess a $75 dollar bow from your description.

Todd,

Warning!

I always wanted an old Bear too. I made the mistake of buying one and put it in the same room as my other newer bows. In about three months time all those newer bows are mostly gone and there are about forty old Bears in that room now. The things multiply like crazy and the only way to stop them is when you totally run out of money and things to sell to obtain them.

There! You can't say nobody warned you!

Do not take Jack's warning lightly.  My wife innocently purchased me a 1959 Grizzly for Christmas.  3 months later and there are now 6 of its older Bear friends here with it.

I agree with Jack & Ceme24 I've bought five Bears in a year and a half also bought one for each of my 2 boys and one for my wife. Just need a couple more! And the funny part it all started with a 1967 zebrawood tigercat. BEWARE.

Todd!

I just bought a Tigercat from *****.  Great bow, but not zebrawood.  I got it for considerably less than $60.00. Great shooter!  Now, if only the indian can learn how.

My grandson has a 45# Kodiak Magnum.  The other fellas are right.  thse bows multiply like crazy!
there's a 35# Cat out there with my name on it.

I'm far from an expert bowyer, but I gotta tell ya, the garage rafter thing might be a concern. I guess I would say do what you think is right with your friend.  you know how it will work out.

the one thing Ihave noticed about the price on zebrawood Cats is the price seems to hover around $100.00.  I saw one for $600.  Dreamer.

regardless.  Enjoy.  just remember...Bear bows are like tribbles.

Put a string on it, limbs are perfect, shoots pretty good to, Steve told he bought it when he was 16, only shot it for about a year. He said he couldn't hit anything and put it away. Thanks for your help, I know I've been warned, I'm pretty sure I won't buy another, pretty sure! Todd

Cogratulations! But I'll bet money there will be more! I only had 42 bows yesterday and I have 45 today and the bad part the day isn't over yet!
