Bear magnesium riser sight-plate screws?
« on: April 17, 2010, 12:09:00 AM »
Hi there - Am in the process of restoring a riser (#C3561) and could use a few tiny screws, or info on them. What size (& thread) screws attach the sight-plate to the riser? Anyone know a good source for such small screws?  Thanks!    :help:

If you have one of the screws take it to a GOOD hardware store( not h/d or lowes ) and they should be able to help, i will see what i have later today.   Good Luck Harold

And while I'm bothering you folks, there are flat mounting positions on both the front & back of a 'C' riser, above the arrow shelf, with three holes. Any info as to what kind of screws go in there?  Thanks again!   :help:

These are sight mounts, don't remember the name, but bear sold them, as for the thread size, i don't remember, but i was thinking there was only one screw and it went in the middle hole, the other two was locater holes.
I'am sure some one out there knows more than i do about this so lets hear about it.
I would like to know more  :archer:    :archer2:

It was to mount the "omni-sight".  They are hard to find but I know where one is in North Georgia.  A Pawn shop has a nice USAC Constalation with lots of accessories.  Arrows, reynolds sight, and the omni sight.  They want $200 for the package and will not break it up...I tried.

As far as I know, it is still sitting there.

I was actually thinking of having a U-bracket CNC'ed, from billet aluminum or magnesium, to install between sight mounts and tapped for more current sights.

I found those screws at a hobby store. The store should be well stocked with R/C airplane and car stuff. Once I found the size I needed I ordered brass screws from another hobby place called Micro-Mark. I was also able to get a screw extracter from them for those small screws. I replaced the factory plate with a plate I made from bloodwood. I have a semi-gloss black riser so the combo looks great to me.

I checked one of my risers last night. Mine is a #2 screw 56 threads per inch. Hope this helps.

Thanks M60gunner & inrut,  ......Great advice!
Picked up a dozen #2-56 brass flatheads at the hobby shop today and ordered the screw extractor. Short of coming over and doing it for me, you couldn't have made it easier.

Any ideas on a sight mount screw?

Thanks again!

Kris, you can go to the Great auction Site and punch in 120557937348 and see a picture of the sight, don't know if this will help or not.
most sight screws in those days were 10x24 but this one looks prety big for a 10 could be 1/4x24  Harold

Actually, the two offers on 120557937348 are mine but since I'm mainly interested in parts and he's not exactly giving it away... but it is a great picture. Thanks

Thanks Dave! Now when you way "mine," do you mean the screw or the riser?

The 10-32 is the thread in the riser for the sight,

I have an Omni Sight I will be selling shortly along with a couple C mags and a B mag, just trying to figure what they are worth.

I have two A Mag risers and found that the screws to hold the latch to the riser are two sizes. The early model riser with the Bear emblems on the latches use #4-40 screws. The later model riser used #6-32 screws.

Hello again -
Back to the hardware store... definitely 10-32 for the center hole on the sight mount... thanks Dave. That 'B' Mag you're sitting on wouldn't be left-handed would it?

It's remarkable we've managed to get two pages out of a post about screws!

When my sight mounting-bracket comes back from the machine-shop & powder-coat I'll put up some pictures.
