Besides collecting Bear Bows I am also into collecting old books about archery and or hunting in general.
Besides Fred Bear Teddy Roosevelt was another one of my heros growing up. At any rate in one of Mr. Roosevelt's books he recommended reading The Adventures of James Capen Adams 1868 (we know him as Grizzly Adams there really was such a man)by Theodore Hittell, The Still Hunter by John C. Van Dyke 1888 and The Life of Kit Carson by Charles Burdett.
At any rate all three of these books needed their bindings worked on so I dropped them off to a local book binder. Are not many of those around.
Today I pick them up and I am wearing my 3 Rivers Fred Bear kneeling at full draw T shirt. He starts to tell me he met Fred back in 1982. Seems Fred wanted to have the family Bible worked on so he dropped it off where this guy use to work. When Fred picks up the Bible he dropped off two bows to give as a gift to this guy and the owner of the company.
Well you guessed it his unscrupulous boss never gave him the bow. He learned about the bows 5 years later from a foreman who told him that since he had worked on the Bible Fred wanted him to have one of those two bows. To this day he is still upset over that.
What a small world.
