old shakspeare bow

Got this from a friend that knows I like trad archer.  He gave it to me to mess around with.  I've got to clean it up and get a string for it.

I want to find some info on it if anyone has seen one before.

This is what I know:

Also, does anyone know the best way to clean it up?  It appears to have alot of adhesive residue on it.

You might try some GOO GONE, and elbow grease for the adhesive residue.

The Custer model was made in the early 70's and they shoot real good. I always use baby wipes to get all the dirt and grime off when I get a bow. As for the sticky residue acetone works really good. Also a 7.5 inch brace height shoots real good with the custer I have. Good find..Henry

Acetone is the thing to use.  It will remove paint, dirt, grime, grease, and glue but not the original finish unless you really over do it.  Clean lightly with a soft cloth (old T shirt) with Acetone soaked in.

I have always had great success with acetone.

Acetone works good, but don't rub too hard or you might rub thru the finish. I often use charcoal lighter fluid. You can dampen a paper towel with the fluid and let it sit on the gunk for a while to loosen it up. Good luck.

It appears that I've got a 1967 model.  Best that I can tell frome the link.

I've got some goof-off and tested it on some of the adhesive and it cleaned it up pretty good. That makes me hopefull. Now I've got some elbow work to put it in and clean the whole bow.

I will be ordering a string soon.  I will let you guys know if its a shooter.  Thanks everyone for the infomation.
