Anyone care to post pics of a '65 Kodiak?
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:56:00 PM »
I have really fallen for my '62 Kodiaks. I hear tell the new Bear Trad Bo called the SK is more like the '65 which was apparently a faster shooter. Could someone share some pics of a 65Kodiak.... My interest is peaked to see one..... Thanks!

Here's a few I have (pictures, not bows).  I think I have my pictures straight on years.

The one here in the middle is a 65.

And I think this one is a 65.

I like those new Super K's too, I'm gonna have to have one!

I don't know if the '65 outperforms the '62 (at least mine doesn't) but the new SK looks more like a '65 Kodiak than a Super Kodiak.

There is a old thread about the best shooting Kodiak,if you have time to search here.I think to remember the best shooters resulted in the 62 and 64 with the 63 pretty close. If I am not wrong Bill Strickland made the comparison last winter.

bd beat me to the punch, My '65,other than feeling heavier in hand, very much resembles my '75 SK, to me,very little change in 10 years.

Bryce I know this is a little off from what you were asking, but bowdoc mentioned that after '65 they were all really close.  Well here's a line up of what I have.   Lefty '65, '64, '65, '66, '66, '68, '73, '76.

My girlfriends daughter has my '72, but it's no different.  There just isn't a whole lot of difference between any of them.

I only have one more to add to this list, and it would definetely be the least sought after of any of these by anyone else...a 1982-83 Gainesville bow in 45# or 50#.

Two of my favorites. The 54lb bow is the first Kodiak I bought, and the bow that got me hooked on vintage bows. It performs very well, but the 60lber is a sledge hammer.

Wow, Chuck, those may be the prettiest two 65's I've ever seen. They're all real good looking, but those are special.  For my money, the earlier years were generally a little better performers than the 65-66s, but it's awfully hard not to like all of Bear's 60s Kodiaks. How many bow designs since have imitated exactly those profiles that Bear, and BW, and Wing were putting out back then?  Funny, that those old bows still measure up as well as they do, huh?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I love them all. The look, the feel, the cast and the ambiance.   :archer:
