Need some advice from you experts ?????????
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:25:00 PM »
I am refinishing a '72 or '73 Super Kodiak and it has a threaded inscert in the front of the bow for a stablizer or fishing reel. My Question is what's the best way to remove it.

It's started Jack you'll be the first one to see the pic's

Contact one of the guys that does restorations. They should be able to help.

Sometimes, by heating a bolt of the same size and thread, and screwing it into the insert, you may release the adhesive. Beware, if does not come easily, you may cause the wood to splinter around the insert when you pull it out. Some inserts have teeth on the outside to hold it in place, to prevent the insert from turning after it is installed.

Doug,

Can't wait! Hope you get it done in time to still hunt the rut for one of those big Iowa bucks with it.

Hey Doug, good to see you tackle another one, but did you narrow it down to the year....reason I ask, '72 and '73 are alot different.  This is a '73/'74...

Carlos I think the stripe is thinner on mine other than that is appears the same. I got a good deal on the bow but it was in pretty tough shape ( I knew that when I bought it and to be honost the serial numver was unreadable on it so it will be finished with no serial # ) I'm OK with the no serial number thing as I will just keep it and hunt with it. I will try to get some pic's for it on hear this week

Doug,

To tell the truth I cn't remember if the coin was flat on that bow? If so, I believe the silkscreen was on the belly and it would make it a 72.

Doug,

I still believe it to be a 72 with the raised coin as they started using those mid year or so.
