That explains the 3 in the window area, but what is the other one for. The owner is no longer with us. He was an archery instructor and perhaps one of his students can enlighten us. His widow who sold them to me is preparing an information package about his life for me.

I was thinking that too, but then I realized that a high mark is for a short distance. It makes you aim lower.

I promised the lady I bought them from that I would never break up the pair, so you have first dibs on the pair.

Thank you, Danny. They are 1960 without a doubt, even though they have the copper coin. Gorgeous thin tips and a very pronounced recurve. No doubt they will be lightning quick.

Guess your distance and then put your shelf level with the target. Note your highmark and then bring your shelf to that level. Then dial it in. I'm guessing that is what was taking place here. I have seen several old target bows set up and used like this. Kinda Neat as to what the thought process was.... I Certainly like your find and the story that goes with it.

Ah, now that makes sense.

The owners name was Donald Patrick Betteredge. How could someone with name like that fail to become a shooter of broadheads, and particularly the Bear Razorhead, which always seems to generate controversy about how to get a better edge.

The other part of the story is as I suspected. Betteredge was a handgun shooter and I think he ordered the 38 and 45 that way for a reason. I would guess he would have also had a 22 if he could.

I am going to post some pics of the 45 that I took outside yesterday under my 1960 Kodiak thread.
