Sharpening Bear Razor Heads

Any of you guy's sharpening your bear razorheads with a file. I used to do them with a stone but with some time off this fall I've done some with a file while sitting in my stand and am very impressed on how sharp they get with a file.

I sharpen my Zwickys with a file and they are close to the same hardness. Does a great job, just like ole Fred used to do.

I use a bear sharpening tool and then a diamond stick and when done you can shave the hair off your arm. And if your not carefull some skin also

I use a file as well. I have a KME broadhead system and it works great but I can get similar results with a file much quicker. These heads are pretty soft and I've found they require frequent touching up. The only issue with filing is that you remove a lot of stock over a season's time.  GY

Hey, I've got one of those little Bear carbide thingies somewhere.  Wish I had the rest of the Bear Holster set - nice!

I have a small Grizzly file in my daypack and a single cut Grobet in a sheath on my side quiver.  I have been file sharpening my broadheads since I started with Bears, but once they abandoned glue-ons I had to move elsewhere.

File for me!  I make sure there are sharp file marks along the edge ( like a serrated knife). It grabs the tiny blood vessels cutting them, along with the main wound

I file all my 2 blade heads and then shoot them into some foam I have for a broadhead target. The foam hones those heads to scary sharp!

I sharpen my Zwickeys with a file.  Just today I got some old Bear heads ready to be sent out that a guy wants to use and sharpened one.  It got real sharp.  The old Bear file don't work worth a hill of beans.  I went to a tool specialty store many years ago and got the right file to do the job.

So what kind of file is the right file?

The one I use is a Nickolson Cantsaw, three sided file.  They are about $6.00 each at the specialty store that I get them at.  They may have went up as I haven't had to buy one in a few years.

Six inch mill bastard file works best for me for the last 38 years.But not the same one! LOL
