Old Shakespeare Bow Found (pic heavy)
« on: February 05, 2011, 02:13:00 PM »
My Dad and I used to hunt archery way back when.  He passed away at an early age.  I found out my brother had his old bow.  When we last hunted together with it, I think it was in 1970.  Still don't know what happened to my old bow from when we hunted together.  But I'd stepped up to a little bigger one that I had made from a blank in high school shop by a year or 2 later.

Anyways, it was used when he got it and even now is in pretty good shape and shoots pretty good.

Apologies for the cell phone camera quality.

The ratty looking limb covers haven't changed.  I think we got those from Herters.     :archer:

Hard to read, but it says 45#. A bit harder to pull than my other bow that's also labeled 45#.  Maybe it's because of the amount of recurve or something.

I put a string on it I had from another bow and after a few trial shots hit my nemesis, the quarter at 20 yds:

Thanks Guys.  But if I could shoot like that every shot, I might be able to open an archery store or something.

I own an Ocala of the same era, mine was built in '68, I believe. Nice shooting bows and are well crafted. I-beam riser, window is zebra and the remainder of the riser is shedua. It's nice that you have such a keepsake.

Hi Steve,
Those old Ocala's are real nice bows! I have owned and shot three over the years. Mine were in weights of 50#'s up to 61#'s. good speed but execeptional smoothness and very quite too when tuned well. Enjoy.
