Darton Classic Recurve
« on: May 05, 2011, 07:45:00 AM »
I recently picked up a Darton Classic Recurve locally for $40.  I have spent the last few days taking the camouflage paint off that the previous owner had put on it.

The serial number is #113CX1934 and is 38# and 66".  I email Darton for information but they have not got back to me.  Can anyone here give me any information?

Darton has been around for more than 50 years and began making recurves in the 60's.  It stopped doing so when the compound became popular, but began again in the 90's by hiring Ron Pittsley and introducing the Predator.  Ron is now on his own making this fine bow, but not sure if Darton still has a trad line.

A good friend of mine entered the Law Enforcement Olympics with his Darton recurve about 20 years ago and brought home a medal or two.  They're rather inexpensive bows, but still shoot quite well.

Thanks for the info.  I currently shoot a Darton compound bow and live about a half hour from their factory in Michigan.

Is there a way to use the serial number and come up with a year of manufacture?

You might try contacting Mr. Pittsley who headed up Darton's trad line a few years ago.  As I mentioned, he now has his own company called Hunters Niche, but may have clues for you to follow. Ron is a nice guy and I bet he can be helpful.

That looks close, except on mine the laminate on the limbs does not come down that far on to the riser.  I was looking through the old catalogs on their website but couldn't find one that I thought was it.
