59-62 Kodiaks
« on: July 06, 2011, 04:44:00 PM »
Is there a source anywhere that describes the differences in these models from year to year.  I'm looking for specifications -- riser lengths and depths, maybe grip circumference, etc. I realize these specs can change with length and weight of the bow, but would like to see anything that's available.

kind of hard to do because in 59-62 all bear bows were hand finished.Meaning they may have a slight difference from one bow to the next ? bd

Thanks Bjorn and bowdoc.  I realize this info is hard to come by.  I have read in two sources that the 60-61 risers were longer than the 59-60 risers, and that the 60-61 risers were deeper, back to belly, at the arrow shelf.  These dimensions would be created before glue-up, subject to differences in weight and length, of course, so I'm thinking that hand finishing wouldn't change them that much.   Hmmmmm.  Maybe we have a whole nother data collection project here.   :bigsmyl:

I didn't bother with pics we have all seen them.  Although hand finished with some variance; I measured a bunch of them and took averages to create the differences; or not.
The 61 and 62 bows are the same bow; the bottom of the throat is 1 3/4 from the floor and grip is 5 1/4 circumference; riser is 27 max length-that is where the actual  wedges end. Limb widths are 1 3/4 and the curvature of the recurve is the same for both.
1959 and 1960 bottom of throat is 1 3/4 off the floor; grip is 4 3/4 for the 59 and 5 circumference for the 1960. Max riser is 20 1/4 for the 1959 and 21 1/4 for the 1960; limb width is 1 1/2 for the 1959 and 1 5/8 for the 1960. The recurve is more dramatic in the 1960 than the 1959.

Thanks, Bjorn.  Exactly what I was looking for. Some pretty noticeable differences in riser length and limb width.
